Musana founders Haril and Andrea Kazindra have been in the UK this week with a challenging message to the nation’s charity sector.
Philanthropists, NGO leaders and those passionate about sustainable development attended the ‘Aid v Enterprise’ reception, held at the Conduit venue in Covent Garden.
The Kazindras shared the Musana story of how communities are being transformed across Uganda through social enterprises. They discussed shocking aid statistics that revealed how much government aid has been distributed to Africa in the last decade.
Those in attendance asked questions and were impressed with Musana’s latest financial reports that showed the Ugandan enterprises generated a $500,000 profit.
The following day, Haril – who leads Musana’s 700-strong team in Uganda, was invited to speak at the Blended Africa conference. He took part in a panel discussion on investing in education for greater impact.
Musana recently launched a UK office and the Kazindras were invited to Parliament last year when they spoke with MPs and key government officials about aid.
They plan to return to London later this year for further key meetings as support for the new office increases.
