our vision is to see a world
FREE OF DEPENDENCY & FULL OF DIGNITY
Musana is breaking the cycle of poverty and dependency in Uganda.
Our Mission
Our MISSION is to break cycles of dependency and poverty by investing in and operating faith-driven, locally-owned, sustainable social enterprises.
We recognize the interconnected needs of vulnerable communities and take a holistic approach to build pathways out of poverty. We believe in empowering local leaders to drive economic and social growth of their own communities through social enterprises that promote education, health, and economic development (skill training and job creation).
why is
Musana different?
why does our model focus on social enterprises?
To empower people to “be the change” they want to see in their communities
To see schools and hospitals become free of dependency by generating 100% of their operating budget
To improve the standards of social services while also providing affordable options
To create self-reliant communities that reinvest profits into supporting the most vulnerable individuals and families of their communities through scholarships and free health services
To transform lives with sustainable solutions
our
model
In each community we partner with, we replicate our proven model of community development.
Always Expanding Impact
our
values
faith
We believe all people are created in God’s image and deserve respect and unconditional love. Committed to bold, transformative action, we stand firm in the belief that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). Therefore, we will never limit God’s work by playing it too safe or thinking too small.
Local Ownership
Our projects are envisioned and implemented by local men and women who empower and drive the community to take a leadership role in “being the change.” We believe in putting local ownership above Western standards and ideas. The more a community owns its programs, the more impactful and sustainable they will be.
Accountability
Africa has been called a bucket with holes in it because aid is given but there is nothing to show for it. Unfortunately, foreign aid has unintentionally created a culture of corruption and misuse of donor funds.
Musana enforces accountability by ensuring every dollar is double-checked by multiple stakeholders, preventing waste and misuse of resources. We combat corruption with strict checks and controls to ensure every dollar is spent efficiently and with integrity to directly benefit the community.
Sustainability
We aim to generate 100% of our operating budget through locally generated funds from our social enterprises. If a program can’t be sustained by local income, we don’t start it. Our services are designed to be fully supported by the community, empowering staff and beneficiaries with the dignity of self-sufficiency. They don’t need foreign aid, just initial capital to kickstart their programs. From there, they can build revenue streams to support themselves, demonstrating that they have what it takes to develop independently.
Social Entrepreneurship
We promote an innovative business mentality by creating social enterprises. Charity has played a devastating role in killing local initiatives and local economies. The more “handouts” given, the less a community develops. Our enterprises support the greatest needs in the community and are profit-driven to ensure local buy-in, sustainability, and job creation. The community loves supporting our businesses because they know that profits serve their struggling neighbors with access to quality services.
what is a
social
enterprise
Musana’s social enterprises generate income that cover operational costs, creating 100% sustainable businesses that allow profits to be reinvested into the community through education scholarships and medical assistance. Because social enterprises do not depend on donations, they can sustain themselves long-term.
