Musana is celebrating today after our Finding Musana documentary scooped a top honour at the 5th Annual Anthem Awards — one of the world’s leading recognitions for social impact and humanitarian storytelling.
The film, which charts Musana’s rise from a small community project in Uganda to a powerhouse of schools, hospitals and social enterprises, was one of five gold winners in the Non-Profit category.
Co-founder Haril Kazindra said the win is ‘a victory for every child and every family in Uganda who refused to be trapped in dependency’.
“This award isn’t about us — it’s about communities proving that dignity, ownership and enterprise can break poverty for good,” Haril said. “Finding Musana shows what happens when people are given the chance to build their own future.”
Finding Musana tells the extraordinary story behind Musana’s model: no handouts, no dependency — but Ugandan-led businesses, education and healthcare reinvesting profits back into their own communities. The film has already been praised for challenging outdated aid structures and offering a bold alternative that is gaining global attention.
The Anthem Awards attract thousands of entries from across the world, celebrating work that drives real social change. For Musana, this win signals that the message is landing loudly.
The documentary highlights how Musana’s three campuses, which includes schools, hospitals and a growing portfolio of enterprises are transforming lives at scale — with profits supporting quality education for children who were once written off.
Haril added: “This recognition pushes our story further. The world is watching — and Uganda is leading.”
